The strongest DBT programs in the Denver area are the ones that deliver more than a skills class: weekly individual therapy, a skills group, between-session phone coaching and a therapist consultation team. Of the seven practices below, Front Range Treatment Center is the only one that describes itself as DBT-Linehan Board Certified, and several others publish at least three of those four components. We put Mountainside Behavioral Health first because it is our own practice, and we say so plainly.
Every competitor on this list was checked on its own website in September 2026. We report only what each practice says about itself, we name the page we read, and we do not rate anyone on outcomes, because no practice here publishes comparable outcome data and a web page is not evidence of results.
If you are not sure DBT is the right therapy in the first place, our DBT vs. CBT guide is a better starting point. If you are ready to interview programs, take our questions to ask a DBT therapist to each consultation call.
How we ranked these practices
- DBT is offered as a named, dedicated service on the practice's own website, not only listed among dozens of approaches.
- The site states which of the four standard DBT modes it provides: individual therapy, skills group, phone coaching and a therapist consultation team.
- Skills groups are published with a schedule or length, and there is a group or family component for teenagers.
- Fees and the insurance model are published on the site, so you can compare cost before calling.
- Telehealth is available to clients elsewhere in Colorado.
- Clinicians are named on the site with their license or degree.
We ranked on these criteria alone, using what each practice publishes. We did not use reviews, star ratings or outcome claims, and no practice paid to be included. Details change, so confirm fees, availability and insurance directly with any provider.
1. Mountainside Behavioral Health
Mountainside is a female-owned practice whose clinical work is built around DBT and CBT. Its treatment approach page describes comprehensive DBT as including individual therapy, phone coaching and skills groups, and adds DBT-Prolonged Exposure (DBT-PE) for clients with PTSD once stabilizing skills are in place. Clinical Director Emily Biggs-Heisler, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist, and co-owner Anabelle Brecker, LCSW, facilitate both skills groups.
The adult DBT skills group meets Tuesdays from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on a rolling six-month to one-year cycle. The teen group is a multi-family group for ages 12 to 18, where parents learn the same skills alongside their teen, meeting Mondays from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM over 24 weeks. Groups are skills classes, not process groups: each session opens with mindfulness, reviews homework and teaches a new skill.
Fees are published. Mountainside is an out-of-network practice and provides superbills for possible reimbursement. Every clinician also offers secure telehealth anywhere in Colorado, and Diana Huizar, Ph.D., offers sessions in English and Spanish.
- Individual sessions (45 min): $175 to $200; adult group $125 and teen multi-family group $150 per two-hour session
- Out-of-network; superbills provided; free initial consultation
- Clients from age 11 (Dr. Huizar) and 12+ across the team, plus adults, couples and families
- Modalities listed on its site: DBT, DBT-PE, CBT, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based practices
- Its site does not describe a therapist consultation team, so ask about case consultation during your free call
2. Front Range Treatment Center
Front Range Treatment Center (FRTC) describes itself as a DBT-Linehan Board Certified program and says it is the only one in Colorado. Its adult DBT page lists all four modes of standard DBT: weekly individual sessions, a weekly two-hour skills group, phone coaching as needed, and a consultation team that meets weekly. It describes the full adult program as running about 12 months.
FRTC also runs a teen program for ages 13 to 17 with multi-family skills groups and parent support, a child DBT program, and adult skills classes that follow a 24-week rotation. Its billing page lists individual sessions (50 minutes) at $175 to $225, the adult skills class at $125 and the teen multi-family group at $150, and says it accepts Colorado Medicaid and provides out-of-network superbills.
- All four DBT modes listed on its site; describes itself as DBT-Linehan Board Certified
- Adult, teen (13 to 17) and child DBT programs
- Fees published; accepts Colorado Medicaid per its billing page
- In person at 5300 DTC Parkway and online across Colorado
3. Denver DBT and Psychotherapy
Denver DBT and Psychotherapy describes itself as a group of licensed clinical psychologists and doctoral-level clinicians providing treatment based on Marsha Linehan's DBT model, and calls itself the longest-running provider of DBT groups in Denver. Its schedule page lists seven weekly adult DBT groups, split between virtual and in-person, and three adolescent groups divided by age (roughly 12 to 14, 14 to 16 and 16 to 18), with a parent check-in built into the early adolescent group.
The practice says its full DBT curriculum takes about 45 weeks and that groups are open, so you can join after an intake. It also offers individual, couples and family therapy. Its site does not say whether it provides phone coaching or runs a consultation team, so that is a question to ask.
- Groups $95 per session; individual sessions typically $175 to $210; 55-minute intake $225
- Bills some Aetna and Medicaid plans for individual therapy only; superbills for everything else
- Sliding-scale spots offered at times, per its fees page
- Office at 1660 South Albion St., Denver
4. WellPower
WellPower is a Denver nonprofit mental health provider, established in 1989 according to its site. Its DBT page says it offers a full DBT program in English, including individual therapy, skills group and phone coaching, for adults who are already enrolled in other WellPower services. It also runs a Spanish-language DBT skills group for adults, with individual therapy and phone coaching available in Spanish as needed.
For younger clients, WellPower lists groups for children, teens and young adults that incorporate DBT skills, plus a DBT skills group for parents and caregivers, and it encourages parents of adolescents to attend a weekly multi-family group. It describes the program as modules of about seven to eight weeks, taking at least six months to complete all of them.
- Full English-language DBT program is for adults already enrolled at WellPower
- Spanish DBT skills group for adults 18+
- Weekly diary cards and homework described on its site
- Contact: DBT@wellpower.org, per its DBT page
5. Colorado Anxiety Treatment Center
The Colorado Anxiety Treatment Center is the practice of Charles D. Glass, Ph.D., a licensed clinical psychologist whose site says he has more than 40 years of clinical experience. Its DBT page describes a comprehensive assessment, individual therapy with Dr. Glass, group skills training, and regular case consultation.
The practice's main focus is CBT for anxiety, OCD and PTSD, so DBT is one service among several rather than a stand-alone program. Its site does not publish a group schedule or mention phone coaching or a teen group.
- Initial evaluation $200; therapy sessions $175, per its fees page
- Participates with Aetna, Anthem/BCBS and traditional Medicare, per its fees page
- In-person or telehealth sessions

6. Original Path Counseling
Original Path Counseling says it teaches DBT in individual, family and group therapy, with groups taught in a small-group format over 12 weeks and aimed largely at teens dealing with depression, anxiety, self-harm and emotion regulation. Its DBT page describes the four standard components but does not say which of them Original Path itself provides.
The practice's fees are tiered by clinician experience, from $75 for a supervised student to $180 for the owner and clinical director, and its fully licensed clinicians are in-network with several plans.
- Fees $75 to $180 per 50-minute session, per its fees page
- In-network (licensed clinicians): Aetna, Cigna/Evernorth, Colorado Medicaid plans, Medicare, Tricare and United, per its fees page
- Free 15-minute phone consultation with an office assistant
- 12-week DBT groups
7. CBT Denver
CBT Denver is a cognitive behavioral practice that lists DBT among its treatments and says its group program draws on CBT, DBT, ACT and mindfulness-based therapies. Its groups page describes skills groups for children and adults that run from four to sixteen weeks.
Because DBT sits alongside many other approaches here, this is a better fit for someone who wants DBT skills within broader CBT-based care than for someone looking for a full four-mode DBT program. The site does not describe phone coaching or a DBT consultation team.
- Licensed-provider individual sessions $210 to $260 (50 min); lower-cost sessions with its affordable-therapy providers
- Fee-for-service, out-of-network with all insurers; superbills on request
- Teletherapy in Colorado and PsyPACT states
How we chose
We searched for Denver-metro practices that name DBT as a service, then read each practice's own DBT, fees and group pages. Practices whose sites we could not load, or that only mentioned DBT in a list of approaches, were left out. The order after Mountainside follows the criteria above: how many of the four DBT modes a site says it provides, whether adult and teen groups are published, whether fees are listed, and whether telehealth is offered.
We did not use review scores, and we did not treat certification as the only thing that matters. Certification by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification is a meaningful signal that a program has been reviewed against the full model, and FRTC is the only practice here that claims it. Mountainside ranks first because this is our guide; the disclosure above each list says so.
Comprehensive DBT vs. DBT-informed therapy
DBT was developed by Marsha Linehan for people with chronic suicidal thoughts and borderline personality disorder. As studied in the original research, it has four parts that run at the same time. Many therapists use DBT skills without the rest of the structure, which is usually called DBT-informed therapy. That can be the right choice for milder difficulties, but it is not the same treatment.
- Individual therapy: usually weekly, focused on your own targets and diary card.
- Skills group: a weekly class covering mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness.
- Phone coaching: brief contact between sessions to apply a skill in the moment.
- Consultation team: the therapists meet regularly to keep treatment on model and support each other.
What to ask before you enroll
Ask which of the four modes you will actually receive, how long the program runs, whether you can join the group mid-cycle, what the phone-coaching rules are, and who is on the consultation team. For teenagers, ask how parents are involved. Our DBT question checklist covers these in more detail, and what to expect at a first DBT session explains the intake.
When outpatient DBT is not enough
Outpatient DBT is weekly care. If you or someone you love is thinking about suicide right now, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line, or call 911 if there is immediate danger. WellPower lists 24/7 walk-in crisis support in Denver on its crisis services page. For children and teens, Children's Hospital Colorado's Pediatric Mental Health Institute says it offers individual and group DBT for teens, and the hospital lists 24/7 emergency locations. Mountainside's Denver mental health resources page lists more crisis and low-cost options.
